We already knew that Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio made the leap from the Netflix Marvel series, Daredevil, to Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Weren’t they part of it before? Well, technically yes, but let’s just leave that alone for the time being.) The two have already shown up in other MCU projects to date and will both be in the eighteen-episode Disney+ show, Daredevil: Born Again, which starts shooting in about a month.
What we didn’t know, however, was whether other cast members from the Netflix series would make the crossover. Today, however, we got confirmation that at least one more character from the Netflix side of things will show up in the MCU.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Bernthal will once again play Frank Castle/The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. We were first introduced to Bernthal’s rendition of the character in the Netflix Daredevil series, and then spent much more time with him when he got his own Netflix show, appropriately titled The Punisher, where his anti-hero character did violent, anti-hero things. The show got two seasons before Disney put the kibosh on the whole Marvel-Netflix partnership when the streamer’s licensing agreement for the characters ran out.
We don’t know how big Bernthal’s part will be in the new series, but his portrayal of the character is much-loved, which means fans will be happy to see his presence in any quantity. Here’s to hoping that Bernthal’s return means we might hear news of more characters making the jump to the MCU. I’m talking, of course, about Foggy and Karen, played respectively by Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll. Cox wants them on board, and so do we, Disney. Please make it happen!
No news yet on when Daredevil: Born Again will stream on Disney+, though it will be sometime in the spring of 2024.
